MLT 101 - Introduction to Medical Laboratory TechnicianPrerequisite: MAT 090 , MAT 095 , or appropriate score on the placement test; AND RDG 095 or appropriate score on the placement test. Corequisite: BIO 116 . (3 Credits) This course introduces students to the role that the Medical Laboratory Technician plays within the healthcare system. This course covers a general overview of the departments of the clinical laboratory and laboratory personnel, laboratory safety, infection control, glassware and equipment, medical terminology, and mathematics as they apply to laboratory science. Students will develop familiarity with the blood bank and the collection of bodily fluids. Students review the skills needed to draw blood and prepare specimens for testing. Course fee required. Total of 30 hours of lecture and 45 hours of lab.
