HIM 204 - Pathophysiology and PharmacologyPrerequisite: MAP 102 , MAT 109 , BIO 103 , BIO 104 , HIM 101 , IST 102 , IST 173 , and IST 202 . (3 Credits) This course provides in-depth knowledge of diseases, their etiology, medical complications, and pathophysiology. Students will learn about laboratory and other diagnostic tests used to confirm or rule out diagnoses. Current pharmacological treatments are explored with review and interpretation of health record data. This course covers general pharmacology for health information professions, including understanding the general principles of drug actions and reactions, identifying the major drug classes with specific drug recognition, calculating mathematical drug dosages, and understanding the integration of automated dispensing drug systems with the Electronic Health Record and database management. Total of 45 contact hours.
