IST 154 - Networking Basics Corequisite: CSC 102 or CYB 101 . (3 Credits) Students become familiar with networking terminology and concepts. This course introduces the fundamental building blocks that form a modern network, such as protocols, topologies, hardware, and network operating systems. The course prepares students to take the CompTIA Network+ Exam. It provides coverage of the most important concepts in contemporary networking, such as client/server architecture, TCP/IP, Ethernet, wireless transmission, and security. A current network operating system is used to examine managing users, groups and devices. Additional networking operating systems are surveyed. Also included are discussions of the OSI model, subnets, troubleshooting, and networking integrity. Successful completion of Windows course is strongly recommended. Total of 45 hours of lecture.
