HUM 201 - The Arts: A Creative Synthesis

Prerequisite: RDG 095  or appropriate score on the placement test.
(3 Credits)
Every human is both an artist and philosopher. The entire development of human cultural experience is expressed through our art and ideas. This course examines the role the synthesis of ideas has played in
cultural development from prehistoric societies to our contemporary world. Students in HUM-201 engage in the critical examination of cultural artifacts throughout history to understand how societies inherit
and build upon concepts, traditions, stories, artforms, and philosophies to develop and express new ideas. Throughout the course students are given the opportunity to practice synthesis by formulating
an informed personal response to ideas and topics presented. The final project asks students to demonstrate the ability to develop their own unique expression of the human experience through the
process of creative synthesis. * Arts/Humanities Approved General Education Course. Total of 45 hours of lecture.

Semesters Offered: All Terms, All Years.
