The A.A.T. English program is intended for students who wish to teach English in Maryland’s secondary schools. It is the result of a statewide effort by two and four year faculty to arrive at the appropriate outcomes for the first two years of secondary English teacher training. The English and General Education course provide a sound foundation for the completion of the English major and the Education courses ensure informed career choice and real-world knowledge of today’s classrooms. Students must achieve a 2.75 grade point average, submit a professional portfolio that meets the standards of the Education faculty before graduation, and earn a passing score on a basic skills test of high school level reading, writing, and math (PRAXIS Core, SAT, ACT or GRE), or a 3.0 GPA.
