TRK 110 - Introduction to Commercial Vehicle TransportationPrerequisite: Individuals must have a valid driver’s license from Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, or Virginia, and must have a Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Examiners Certificate, or be qualified to pass a DOT physical examination and drug screen. Candidates for this program must communicate in the English language sufficiently as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation. CDL Class A learners permit required. A reading placement test must be taken, with Compass test results indicating 59 or higher. Corequisite: TRK 108 , TRK 115 . (4 Credits) This course introduces the principles and practices of the commercial vehicle transportation industry. Students will become familiar with basic state and federal motor vehicle traffic laws to include Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations and their application to the industry. The National Safety Council Defensive Driving course for Professional Drivers is offered with certification awarded after successful completion. Career paths in the industry and employment preparation are explored. Commercial Drivers License endorsement preparation will include HazMat, Doubles/Triples and Tanker. Course fee required. Fee also required through the MVA for CDL learners permit. Total of 60 hours of lecture.
