MUS 180 - The History of Rock and Roll (3 Credits) This course provides a survey of the musical, social, and historical elements leading to the growth and development of the various styles of music that have culminated into the form commonly called “Rock n’ Roll”. Discussions of both musical characteristics and social/cultural relationships will be central to the progress of the class. By the end of the course the student should have an understanding of various rock n’ roll styles, important trends and figures in its history, and a systematic process for thinking about and listening to the music. The course is enhanced by an extensive series of audio, video and multimedia resources as well as guest lecturers/performers. * Arts/Humanities Approved General Education Course. Total of 45 hours of lecture.
