MUS 102 - The History of Jazz (3 Credits) This course provides a survey of the elements leading to the growth and development of the various styles of music that have culminated into the form commonly called jazz. Discussions of both musical characteristics and social/cultural relationships will be central to the progress of the class. By the end of the course the student should have an understanding of various jazz styles, important figures in jazz history, and a systematic process for thinking about the music. * Arts/Humanities Approved General Education Course. Semester Offered: Spring Semester Only. Total of 45 hours of lecture.
