SOC 106 - Race and Ethnic Relations in the United StatesPrerequisite: SOC 101 . (3 Credits) The objective of this course is to introduce students to the sociological study of race and ethnic relations in the United States. A variety of theories surrounding the origins of racial and ethnic inequality will be explored in order to put racial/ethnic relations in cultural, historical and social structural context. Major topics to be covered include: racism and intolerance, institutionalized discrimination, ethnocentrism, colonialism and assimilation, historical immigration and migration patterns, segregation, hate crimes, and societal diversification. * Diversity Approved General Education Course. Total of 45 hours of lecture.
